Essam Osman

Vice President for Medical Sciences, Professor of Dental Biomaterials

Essam Osman received his Bachelor Degree in Dental Medicine and Surgery in 1975 from Alexanderia University, Egypt. He pursued his masters in the field of Conservative Dentistry in 1978 from the same university. Then he completed his studies in Dental Biomaterials and obtained his PhD degree in 1983 from Alexandria University. He made one-year fellowship in the School of Dentistry, Indiana University- USA. Currently Prof. Essam Osman is Vice President for Medical Sciences and Dean Faculty of Dentistry at Beirut Arab University.


Teaching Experience


Throughout the working experience he worked as Instructor of Dental Materials (1976-1978), assistant lecturer (1978-1983), lecturer and visiting professor in many universities like, Cairo University, Ain Shams University, Mansoura University, Beirut Arab University, Al Tahady University, Karyounis University and El Fateh University (1983-2010). He worked as assistant professor of Dental Materials in Alexandria University, associate professor of Dental Materials in Alexandria University (1988-1993), visiting professor in King Abdul Aziz University (1989-1993), Professor of Dental Materials in Alexandria University (1993-till present), he was assigned as head of Dental Biomaterials Department (1997-2000), Adjunct Professor of Dental Materials in Misr International University (1998-1999), Deputy Head of Dental Materials Department (2001-2002) in Tanta University, Secretary of Promotion and Evaluation Committee for Assistant Professors of Operative, Endodontics and Dental Materials in Universities Higher Council in Egypt (2004-2008) and Head of Dental Biomaterials Department at Alexandria University (2008-2010). Prof. Essam Osman is now Dean Faculty of Dentistry since 2010 and Vice President for Medical Sciences from 2013 till present at Beirut Arab University.

  • Fatigue behavior of restorative dental materials.
  • Adhesion of resin based composites.
  • Microstructure of restorative dental materials.
  • Structural defects relevant to clinical failure of restorations.
  • Finite element stress analysis of dental prostheses.
  • Concepts of biocompatibility and toxicity of dental materials.
