Dr. Louay Elsoufi is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Beirut Arab University. Previously, he served as an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Lebanese University, Faculty of Science III and Faculty of Engineering I, and was the Director of the Master’s program in Physics Energetics at Lebanese University, Faculty of Science III. Before that, Dr. Elsoufi was the Chairman of the Mechanical and Energy Engineering Department at Lebanese French University. He also worked as part timer at Lebanese International University and National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts University, and half timer at the University of Technology of Belfort-Montbeliard in France.
Dr. Elsoufi is qualified as an Associate Professor in Mechanical and Civil Engineering by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in France (Qualification No: 22260370708).
He received his Ph.D. from the University of Technology of Belfort-Montbeliard in 2009, his DEA (Master of Advanced Studies) in Energetics, Materials, and Mechatronics from Lebanese University, Faculty of Engineering, in partnership with the University of Technology of Belfort-Montbeliard in 2003, and his BE in Mechanical Engineering from Lebanese University, Faculty of Engineering, in 2002.
Dr. Elsoufi's current research focuses on Smart Materials and Structures, Green Building with home automation technology, and Thermo-Fluidic Coupling in the presence of acoustic sources.
Dr. Elsoufi also worked as an Engineering Contractor on mechanical installations at DCH hospital in Lebanon.

DYNAMICS: Dynamics of a particle, system of particles, and planar rigid bodies using Newton’s law of motion. Work and energy principle, impulse and momentum principle. Free[1]body diagram and concept of equilibrium. Planar motion and kinematics of rigid bodies.
FUNDAMENTALS OF MECHATRONICS: Introduction to Mechatronics; Basic electronic components; semiconductor PN junction; Diodes and applications; Bipolar junction transistors; Field-Effect Transistors (FETs); FET amplifiers and switching circuits; Thyristors; Oscillators; Basic programming concepts.
INSTRUMENTATION AND MEASUREMENT: Elements of a measurement system. Classification of sensors. Sensor characteristics. Sensor types. Statistical analysis of data, curve fitting, and uncertainty analysis. Physical principles. Interfacing concepts - amplification, filtering, A/D conversion.
MECHANICAL VIBRATIONS: Introduction to vibration. Equivalent systems. Harmonic motion. Free and forced vibrations of single degree of freedom systems, rotating unbalance and base excitation. Two degree of freedom systems. Lagrange’s equations. Vibration of multi degree of freedom (MDOF) systems through the calculation of eigenvalues and mode shapes (Modal analysis). Vibration measurements. Practical applications.
MECHATRONICS SYSTEM DESIGN: Structure of mechatronic systems; Architecture of microcontrollers; A/D and D/A conversion; Interfacing analog and digital sensors; Controlling actuators using power interface; Servo and stepper motors control; Digital control systems; Logic gates; Karnaugh Maps and flip-flops; Case studies on mechatronic systems design.
DYNAMIC SYSTEMS: Introduction to dynamic modeling of mechanical, electrical, thermal and fluid systems. State-space equations. Analysis of linear systems. Time[1]and frequency-domain analysis. Laplace transform techniques. Nonlinear systems. Introduction to dynamic systems characteristics and performance. Simulation using Matlab and Simulink.
CONTROL SYSTEMS: Transfer function for various dynamic systems. Block reduction techniques. Performance of first-, second-, and higher-order systems. Steady-state error. Stability analysis and Routh-Hurwitz criterion. Root-locus techniques. Design of controllers and compensators. Frequency response and Bode plots.
