Ibtissam Saab

Professor- Head of Physical Therapy Department

Head of Physical Therapy Department Ibtissam M. Saab is an Associate Professor of Physical Therapy and the founder and chairperson of the Physical Therapy Department – Faculty of Health Sciences – Beirut Arab University. After her graduation with a Bachelor from Lebanese University in 1994 (in French language) , she continued her studies in Cairo University – Faculty of Physical Therapy (in English language) and graduated with a MSc degree in 1999, and PhD in Physical Therapy for musculoskeletal disorders in 2004.

She merged between academic and professional skills throughout her career. Apart of her clinical expertise, she taught physical therapy courses in the Lebanese university from 1999 till 2008 when she led the establishment of an entry level (BSc) physical therapy program in Beirut Arab University and since then, the department offered a contemporary program (in English); this program was awarded the full Accreditation from WCPT till June 2021, to be the first program in Lebanon gaining such credential.

Additionally, she established the first Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program in Lebanon and the region in 2013. Such establishment opened the door for willing universities in Lebanon to offer the degree and changed the concept of the profession in Lebanon. Such achievements paved the way for her to be part of the National Technical committee in the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education for all physical therapy programs in Lebanon.

She has always been a part of different committees in the Order of Physical Therapists of Lebanon (OPTL), and lately (November 2017), she was elected as member of the council of OPTL and she is currently the vice president.

Lastly, she was chosen to join the award committee (representative of the European region) set by the WCPT for the awards that will be granted during the next coming International Congress in Geneva 2019.

She participated in many WCPT congresses, namely ER-WCPT congress- Vienna in 2012, Singapore  in 2015, and Geneva in 2019; and held many talks in many regional and international conferences and congresses.

She has many research publications in the physical therapy field.
