Dr. Nariman Salem

Assistant Professor

Dr. Nariman Mohamad Salem is full-time senior lecturer of medical physiology at Beirut Arab University starting September 2018. She was promoted from full time lecturer of physiology (2016- 2018) after attaining a master degree in medical physiology in June 2018.Previously worked as part-time teaching assistant of medical physiology at Beirut Arab University (2013-2016). She had completed a 4-year residency program in Anaesthesia at American University of Beirut (2004 – 2008) and 2 years of residency program in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at American University of Beirut (2002 – 2004). She received a Bachelor degree of medicine and surgery (MBBCH) from Beirut Arab University in collaboration with Alexandria University, Egypt in 2002. Her clinical training included hospitals in Lebanon as well as in Egypt. Dr. Salem had worked as an anaesthesiologist and has had the interest in academic teaching.


September 2018- Present:

Full-time Senior Lecturer of physiology for basic medical sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Beirut Arab University.

September 2017- Present:

Program Director of Anesthesia for residency training program at Beirut Arab University- Affiliated Hospitals.

September 2016- June 2018:

Full-time Lecturer of physiology for basic medical sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Health Sciences, Beirut Arab University.

September 2013- June 2016:

Part-time teaching assistant for physiology at the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Health Sciences at Beirut Arab University.


Master Thesis in Medical Physiology

Title of the Thesis: “Pulmonary function tests in shisha only smokers and its correlation with insomnia in Lebanon” .

Three on- going research with medical students. Titles:

“ The impact of specialty choice on the lifestyle of Lebanese Physicians in Lebanon”

“Pain tolerance threshold and pain detection threshold in shisha only smokers in Lebanon”

“Lymphoma: Exploring Awareness in Lebanon” - Area of research interest: Modulation of pain, Pulmonary Function Testing.


Attending workshops done by Dr. Mahmoud El Damaty for “Cost for Quality”, “Quality aspects and dimensions” and “Why quality in Healthcare” in May 2014 at BAU.

Attending workshops done by Professor Houssam Hamdy for “Adult learning principles”, “Education in Workplace”, “Assessment of competencies”, and Authentic teaching and learning” in December 2014 at BAU.

Attending annual Anaesthesia conferences held in Lebanon.

Basic life support (BLS) and advanced cardiopulmonary life support (ACLS) provider since 2006 certified by American Heart Association AHA.
