Course Description
The aim of this course is to enable residents to provide basic health care for pediatric age group by recognizing the following topics; growth and development-pediatric nutrition and common nutritional problems. Pediatric infections with differential diagnosis, management, oral manifestations and commonly used antibiotics. Salivary glands problems. Pediatric hematology and oncology including: classification of anemia, acute leukemia, bleeding and coagulation disorders. Pediatric common genetic diseases. Pediatric neurology including hydrocephalus, microcephaly, mental retardation, intracranial infections, convulsive disorders, and common behavioural pediatric problems. Pediatric cardiovascular diseases including: prophylaxis for infective endocarditis and heart failure in the pediatric age. Pediatric allergic diseases including bronchial asthma and pediatric endocrinology including diabetes mellitus type 1. Paediatric critical medicine.
