Course Description
The course introduces the students to the scientific basis of periodontics with emphasis on “Prevention”. The basic micro and macro anatomy of the periodontium as well as the etiology, clinical features and classification of periodontal diseases are covered. The course will develop the students’ skills to provide patients with comprehensive education regarding oral hygiene measures. It will reinforce the importance of periodontal oral health in relation to the general health of the patient. In addition students will gain clinical experience by accomplishing phase I periodontal therapy through detection and removal of dental plaque, calculus, and stains.
