Course Description

Basic concepts: Soil permeability, equation of continuity. Two-dimensional flow: Laplace’s equation, Monte-Carlo method, flow nets, method of fragments, flow in layered systems, flow in anisotropic medium, safety of hydraulic structures. Numerical analysis of seepage. Seepage through and beneath earth dams: Foundation dewatering: theory of wells, flow net around excavations, design of well-points and deep wells. Dewatering-induced settlement.
