Course Description

This course overviews the evidence for diet-disease relationships, particularly for chronic diseases taking into consideration methodological aspects of study design. Students will learn to critically interpret results from nutritional epidemiological studies and evaluate the association between a given nutritional factor and disease with emphasis on assessment of exposure factors and statistical error. Also the content will explore current public health nutrition practice issues related to priority issues such as obesity, food security and the food supply. A system based, health promotion framework to addressing priority nutrition issues will be discussed and current public health nutrition practice will be evaluated.
