Course Description
This course provides a comprehensive explanation of the twelve principles of green chemistry and its implementation in designing environmentally friendly processes, using renewable resources, and minimizing waste production in industry. Through lectures, discussions, and case studies, students will acquire knowledge of green chemical syntheses, choice of green solvents, atom economy, and sustainable/renewable raw materials to propose innovative solutions aligned with sustainability. Key topics include designing green chemicals, sustainable reaction pathways, environmental impact assessment, and integrating green principles into industry. The course also covers the transition to renewable resources and the role of policy. Overall, students will acquire knowledge on how the implementation of the principles of green chemistry can advance UN Sustainable Development Goals. CHEM 241.
