  • Hours Distribution: (3Crs.:3 Lec)
  • Course Type: Departmental Elective (DE)

Course Description

This course offers an introduction to the basics of medicinal chemistry, and focuses on the principles of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. It discusses the process of drug design and development, and analyzes the chemical interactions between drugs and its targets in the body, including carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. It describes protein structure, catalytic role and kinetics of enzymes, and the design and mode of action of enzyme inhibitors. The course highlights the role of receptors, the concepts of agonism and anatagonism, and the principles of affinity, efficacy, and potency. The course also details ADMET properties, and introduces various formulation and drug delivery approaches.
