Prof. Wael Nabil Abdel Salam, President of Beirut Arab University, and Dr. Omar Houri, Secretary-General, visited Jordan to strengthen university relations with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. They held an introductory meeting with His Excellency Dr. Toufic Krishan, who is a graduate of BAU, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration. Then they met with His Excellency Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Azmi Mohafza, in his office at the Ministry where they discussed the situation of higher education in private universities in both countries.
The Beirut Arab University Alumni Association in Amman held a reception for the President and General Secretary, where they were welcomed by the Association’s Honorary President, Dr. Toufic Krishan, and members of the Administrative Council and members of the association. During his talk with some university graduates, Prof. Abdel Salam noted that their visit to Jordan was to strengthen cultural cooperation between Beirut Arab University and universities in Jordan.
The President and the Secretary General, then, visited The University of Jordan where both parties President of Beirut Arab University Prof. Wael Nabil Abdel Salam and President of the University of Jordan Prof. Nathir Obeidat signed a memorandum of understanding for four years. The memorandum aims to develop academic cooperation in various fields through holding lectures and organizing seminars and conferences, exchanging publications, books and periodicals, conducting joint research projects, as well as exchanging students and faculty members to support scientific research and exchange of experiences.
The President and Secretary General also met the Vice-President of Yarmouk University for Planning, Development, Scientific Research and Quality, Dr. Samer Samara. Prof. Abdel Salam stressed on the vision of Beirut Arab University in strengthening its relations with one of Jordan's long-standing Arab universities such as Yarmouk University, known for their academic authenticity, position and quality of its graduates in addition to its pioneering role in education, scientific research and community service.
They also met with the President of the German-Jordanian University, Dr. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli, in the university campus. Then they held another meeting with the President of the Jordan University of Science and Technology, Professor Khalid El-Salem. The visit concluded by meeting the Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, at its headquarters in Amman.
This visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan falls under the university’s strategy in building cooperation with Arab universities and educational institutions in addition to exchanging experiences and knowledge among them, thereby benefiting both parties in academic and research fields of mutual interest.
