Beirut Arab University, represented by its President Professor Wael Nabil Abdel Salam, signed for a new memorandum of cooperation with the National Council for Scientific Research - Lebanese Atomic Energy Commission, represented by the Secretary-General of the Council Professor Shadi Abdallah, in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of Science Professor Ghassan Younes, and the Director of the Lebanese Atomic Energy Commission Professor Bilal Nsouli for a period of three years. It aims to enhance academic and technical cooperation in the fields of physics, chemistry, and medical physics with a focus on security and safety in using radioactive and chemical material.
This cooperation is based on previous successful experiences, including the establishment of a diploma in radiation protection in 2009, a master’s degree in radiation control in 2011, in addition to a master’s degree in medical physics in 2017. These programs were conducted with support from the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The memorandum also stipulates receiving postgraduate students from the Faculty of Science in the Commission’s laboratories to prepare master’s and doctoral theses, launching a Diploma of “Radiation Protection Officer” in partnership with the International Atomic Energy Agency along seeking for regional accreditation, launching a diploma specialized in security and safety for chemists targeting workers in industries, ports, and security and emergency sectors. In addition to involving commission’s researchers in teaching, project supervision, and practical training, supporting the analytical capacities of the Faculty of Science for the Environmental Analysis and Consultation Unit and providing the necessary training, hosting a laboratory for individual radiation measurements in Tripoli campus to support the national monitoring program.
