Abstract

The aim of this work was to investigate the influence of solvent on the selected nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) process by comparison with information obtained by performing the same reaction in pure solvnts. In this direction, the kinetic results for the reaction of 2-chloro-3,5-dinitropyridine in pure solvents and binary solvent mixtures such as dimethylformamide (DMF)- Water, Acetonitrile (AN)- water are analyzed through (i) the comparison of the kinetic response models which are reflected by plots of the rate coefficient as a function of mixture composition and at nucleophilic concentration explored; (ii) a correlation analysis of uni, dual and multiregression (according to Kamlet, Abboud and Taft multiparameter model) as well as dielectric constant in order to quantify the contribution of each type of solvent property on the rate coefficient; (iii) the application of preferential solvation models with the object of inferring the preferential solvation order of the critical state of the reaction by the pure components or by the solvent formed as consequence of the interactions between them.
