I am Firas Al Baraj, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Beirut Arab University.

During the last semester, and after being selected by the Erasmus + International Credit Mobility ICM Program, I had the opportunity to travel to Lugo (Galicia-Spain) to study at the University of Santiago de Compostela.

Describing the experience I had seems a difficult task because no words can explain what I lived during the three months of mobility.
From the first day, everything was spectacular: the university staff especially Professor Alberte Castro Ponte, my roommates, the city, and all other things.

Academically, I had to prepare and present seminars about topics related to the field of my doctoral thesis to the students, professors, and other members of the higher Polytechnic School of Engineering, As well, I Collaborated with Professor Alberte and other Ph.D. students of the Civil Engineering department in different research activities using the facilities of the USC laboratory.

Socially, I met and build strong friendships with other international students from different countries namely India, Ireland, Ecuador, United Kingdom, Costa Rica, Italy, Algeria, Jordan, Spain, etc. On our weekly meetings and trips, we shared many of our backgrounds, cultures, traditions, and sometimes we discussed political matters.
Eventually, by the end of the mobility period, one can notice that we are a big international family.

As specific social events, the karaoke nights, the language exchange event, and the trips I had with my friends to Santiago de Compostela, Ferrol, and Barcelona were the highlights of my stay in Spain.

Ultimately, I can say that this experience did not only enriched my academic profile but also improved me as a person from different aspects.
