The Inaugural of IEEE student branch of BAU-Tripoli was held on 19th February, 2019 in the main auditorium. Prof. Khaled Baghdadi – Vice President for Tripoli Branch affairs, Mr. Mohamad Hammoud – Deputy Secretary General for Tripoli Branch affairs, Dr. Ahmad Ellakany – Director of the faculty of engineering in Tripoli branch, and Prof. Bachar ElHassan, chair of IEEE Lebanon section have attended the opening ceremony.
The host of the event was Samer Samadi, IEEE student member from the electrical and computer engineering department. In the opening ceremony, Wissam Obeid, chairperson of the branch, presented the branch members, and gave the plan of the upcoming events. Dr. Youmni Ziade, counselor of the branch, stressed in his speech on the role of student activities in providing an excellent environment for the students and thanked IEEE students’ organizers that made the opening ceremony a successful event.
The event has included technical and non-technical speeches. Dr. Jacques Demerjian, IEEE membership development officer, gave a speech about IEEE membership advantages. Technical speeches were held by Ms. Manal Rassas – general manager at OSD Services, about IT in healthcare, and by Mr. Rabih ElMedawar – learning and development manager at BUS, about new preventive maintenance techniques. Two non-technical speeches were held by Ms. Nadine Ajam, chair of IEEE Women In Engineering affinity group and by Dr. Abdallah Barakat, assistant professor at BAU, entitled ‘How to boost your technical careers’.
At the end of the ceremony, the attendees have been invited to cut together the cake of IEEE student branch for BAU-Tripoli.
