Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

The Mechanical department of Engineering at Tripoli Campus organised a seminar entitled “Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency” in partnership with AEE (Association of Energy Engineers), the LGBC (Lebanon Green Building Council) and IEEE Power Chapter on Wednesday February 27, 2019. After the welcoming speech delivered by student Noor Lababidi, a first year mechanical engineering student, Dr. Ahmad Ellakany, director of the faculty of engineering in Tripoli Campus emphasized on the role of BAU in organizing this type of seminars, which offer a chance for students to gather skills and expertise from highly professional experts. The seminar started with Prof. Ali Hammoud, Head of Mechanical department at BAU, who underlined BAU’s continuous efforts to evolve with new technical and social needs. He also presented a new program proposed by the mechanical engineering department, labeled “Renewable Energy Engineering”. This new program is addressed to meet future needs in clean and sustainable energies. Followed, by Eng. Othman Adra, president of the Association of Energy Engineers in Lebanon and member of Lebanon Green Building Council, who offered a rich presentation about buildings with zero net energy consumption, where energy used is equal to the amount of renewable energy created by this building. After a short coffee break, Eng. Wael Zmerly, President of Zmerly & Co, delivered a presentation about solar energy and smart heating methods, where new interesting types of low heating systems implemented, through different applications, were explained and discussed with attendees. Eng. Jules Assi, representative of Sustainable Akkar, presented the last talk explaining wind turbines farms, which will be built in Akkar in the near future in order to generate electrical power. Eng. Jules discussed the details of the project such as location of wind turbines, acoustic level created by wind turbines, electrical control and many other interesting aspects of the project.
