On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, the Faculty of Health Sciences at Beirut Arab University-Tripoli Branch organized a scientific activity entitled " Diabetes: Prevention and Treatment" which included a symposium, educational leaflets, medical consultation and free tests for blood sugar and HbA1c. The event was held in partnership with Dialeb, a diabetes awareness non-government organisation, Monla Hospital, Tripoli Vector Lions Club, and the National Volunteer Program of the Ministry of Social Affairs. The seminar was moderated by Dr. Rana Husseini, Chairperson of the Health Awareness Committee at the Lions Clubs Association in Zone 351. President of the Dialeb Association Dr. Jacqueline Maalouf spoke about diabetes facts and the significance of awareness to avoid it. The endocrinology specialist at Monla Hospital Dr. Karina Souk identified the types of diabetes, its diagnosis, causes, symptoms, treatment and prevention methods. Assistant Professor of Nutrition and Dietetics at the Faculty of Health Sciences Dr. Rosy Mitri spoke about the nutritional treatment of diabetes, pointing to the factors that increase the incidence of diabetes, and presenting some dietary advice that every diabetic should follow in order to avoid the complications of this chronic disease. The seminar concluded with the Director of the Diabetes Care Program at Monla Hospital Mrs. Elian Saad explaining the guide to diabetes care.
