In recognition of the World Health Day 2023 and the 75th anniversary of the World Health Organization, and under the theme of the year “Health for All”, the Faculty of Health Sciences at Beirut Arab University-Tripoli branch organized a health activity for the elderly at the university premises. The activity included a health education program covering different areas of interest to this age group. The program covered the topics of bone health and the role of vitamin D, physical activity, constipation and the importance of hydration and fiber rich food, dry mouth, oral and body hygiene, self-care, safety and prevention of falls, mental health and stress prevention. The discussion ran in focus groups of ten elderly and five Health Science students who led the conversation in an approachable and joyful style.
The program was followed by an iftar for all participants and an entertainment program inspired by the spiritual atmosphere of the holy month of Ramadan. The traditional Tripolitan Mawlawi band presented a show of Mawlawi dance and religious songs, which added a divine mood to the event. The faculty administration concluded the event by special thanks to the elderly for their participation and distribution of gifts by the students.
