ACM Student Chapter
23 February 2026The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Faculty of Science, Beirut Arab University, proudly launched its ACM Student Chapter, marking a significant step toward strengthening student engagement in the global computing community and fostering innovation across all campuses.
The chapter operates under the umbrella of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the world’s largest scientific and educational computing society. This affiliation connects BAU students to an international network of researchers, educators, and technology professionals, enhancing both academic excellence and professional exposure.
The chapter is structured around three main pillars, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Software Development, offering students opportunities for workshops, competitions, research initiatives, and industry collaboration.
Bringing together students from all BAU campuses, Beirut, Debbieh, Bekaa, and Tripoli, the launch event was held at the Beirut campus and livestreamed to the other campuses to ensure inclusive participation and engagement.
The event was organized by the Events Committee of the Department in collaboration with the Executive Committee and active student members of the chapter, reflecting strong academic and student partnership. Students from all campuses took the lead in managing check-in booths, welcoming guests, coordinating logistics, and overseeing video and photo coverage, ensuring a well-structured and professional launch event.
The Beirut campus hosted a panel discussion, livestreamed to all campuses, moderated by three senior students who serve as heads of the chapter’s track committees. The panel featured distinguished industry professionals: Mr. Kassem Bazzoun, Co-Founder of Semicolon; Mr. Mohmmad El Itawi, Tech Lead and Senior Software Engineer; and Mr. Rami Kawkab, AI Solutions Architect.
In parallel, the Tripoli campus featured a panel discussion with Dr. Amer Backach, Computational Finance Quant Researcher and Equity Trader, while interactive student activities were organized at the Debbieh and Bekaa campuses. The discussions and activities emphasized the importance of innovation, leadership, and industry engagement in shaping the future of technology.
This milestone reinforces BAU’s commitment to empowering students as active contributors to the global computing community and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry.
