The Alumni & Community Service committee at the Faculty of Science hosted the second event of their Alumni Talk Series 2.0 with distinguished Computer Science graduates on Saturday, November 5th, in Beirut Campus. The event started off with welcoming remarks by the Assistant Dean at the Faculty and Head of Committee, Dr. Ghada Khawaja. She stressed that strengthening relationships with Alumni and the job market serves the university’s objectives in building engagement to broaden the students’ horizons and shape their future. She pointed out “the Alumni Talk Series aim at inspiring you with success stories, showcasing what’s possible to do with your degree and be encouraged to advance your own career.”

This event was the first of its kind at BAU featuring fresh graduates of the computer science major, Ibrahim Itani, Omar Mneimneh (Class 2020) and Mohammad Itani (Class 2022), who have successfully secured following their graduation a full-time employment at Murex, an international financial software industry.

In their talks, Ibrahim, Omar & Mohamad relate their story together, how they met at BAU during the trainings for the Lebanese Collegiate Programming Competition (LCPC) and how they won together the 3rd rank in this contest in 2019 hosted at BAU premises. The talented software engineers shared with the students insights about their personal development and career journeys and showcased what it’s like to work as a software engineer at Murex. They discussed the qualifications and skills that are most attractive to Tech industries and how they were able to make it so fast to Murex, a global Fintech leader in trading, risk management and processing solutions for capital markets. This session provided students with a great opportunity to increase their knowledge on how to start a successful career in Software Development and created a platform for network and collaboration between current students and working professionals. The event ended with an interactive and informative Q&A session.
