The Faculty of Science at Beirut Arab University hosted a seminar entitled: "Spotlight on Current UNSCEAR and IRPA activities" lectured by Prof. Mohamed. A. M. Gomaa, Former Vice President of Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority (EAEA) for Training and International Cooperation.
The seminar took place on November 30th at Ali Rached Hall in Beirut Campus and was attended by members of the Lebanese Atomic Energy Comission (LAEC) as well as Pr. Ramadan Awad, Dean of the Faculty of Science and interested Faculty Members, Postgraduates and Undergraduates. The seminar shed the light on the activities of the United Nation Committee for the Effect of Atomic Radiation “UNSCEAR” which is responsible on assessing and reporting levels and effects of exposure to ionizing radiation. Governments and organizations throughout the world rely on this Committee's estimates as the scientific basis for evaluating radiation risk and for establishing protective measures. Prof. Gomaa also emphasized on the activities of the International Radiation Protection Association, which mainly promotes worldwide exchange of professional competence in radiation protection and encourage youth to focus on the field of radiation protection.
