Language Unit

The Language Unit was founded in the academic year 2008 - 2009. It is located in Beirut Campus under the authority of the Faculty of Human Sciences at BAU. It was established to provide students with various services in order to strengthen their linguistic skills in the world’s most spoken languages, most dominantly the English language, due to the alteration of the medium of instruction to English and due to the requirements of the job market, thus satisfying the needs of the local community.

Vision

The Language Unit aims to become a regional and international hub for learning languages and various linguistic and communication skills.

Mission

The mission of the Language Unit at BAU is to equip high-achieving University bound students, in all programs and at all levels, with the various language proficiency skills and with cultural awareness for coping with contemporary demands and to provide various workshops and courses for regional and international applicants to gain new linguistic and professional language-related skills.

Objectives

The Language Unit aims at enhancing the target language skills among learners in order to be able to use it fluently at the communicative, academic, and professional levels.

Therefore, the scope of objectives covers the following:

• Support the main academic objectives of BAU

• Provide BAU students and the general public with first-rate language instruction services

• Improve students' proficiency in English and sharpen the skills necessary for academic purposes

• Offer tailored courses to meet the special needs of students

• Participate in and organize local and international seminars and workshops related to education, language learning, and professional language skills

• Establish communication venues with other institutions interested in languages, whether teaching or learning, to promote cultural and educational exchange
