Psychosocial Counselling Unit

Introduction

In the light of the accelerating rhythm of modern life and the increasing needs of university students for support, both psychologically and socially, to be able to better face the stressors and difficulties of daily life, the Faculty of Human Sciences (Psychology Department) proposes the establishment of the Psycho-social Unit at BAU. This unit becomes an inevitable requirement for the welfare of BAU students. Officially opened and active as of February 29, 2024, such a step will be a pioneering contribution by BAU among Lebanese universities.


Vision

The Unit aims to be a pioneer in Lebanon, that offers psychological and social services to the students at the university, while empowering them to achieve their inner adjustment in both psychological and social terms.

Mission

The Unit seeks to effectively contribute to the self-development of the students who are in need of care and psycho-social support. The aim is to help them attain the optimal level of psycho-social adjustment with themselves and their surroundings, by providing counseling sessions and raising awareness.

1. What services does the Psychosocial Counseling Unit offer?

The Psychosocial Counseling Unit offers various services, including counseling sessions and raising awareness about mental health and well-being.

2. How can I schedule an appointment?

You can schedule an appointment by emailing us at psyc.counseling@bau.edu.lb or calling 01 300 110 Ext: 2906. You can also visit our unit during working hours to book an in-person session.

3. Is there a cost for counseling services?

Our counseling services are free of charge for all enrolled students and current staff members. We are committed to providing accessible mental health support to our university community.

4. Are counseling sessions confidential?

Yes, all counseling sessions are confidential. We adhere to strict privacy guidelines to ensure that your personal information and discussions remain private.

5. How long are the counseling sessions?

Individual counseling sessions typically last about 45 minutes.

6. What should I expect during my first counseling session?

During your first session, you will meet with a counselor to discuss your concerns and goals. This initial meeting helps us understand your needs and develop a personalized plan for your care.

7. Do we prescribe medications?

No, for sure. We don’t prescribe any form of medication to students, but if we see that they need services beyond our limits, we may refer them to the psychiatrists at the BAUHC after their consent.

8. If I received the benefits of the counseling services, will you mention this in my I connect / Transcript or Certificate?

We don’t share our confidential information with any department of the university.

9. Are any students training or working in the psychosocial counseling unit?

Psychosocial Counseling Unit's psychologist(s) are licensed professionals registered at the Lebanese Order of Psychologists.

10. How can I get involved with the Counseling Unit?

We welcome student involvement through volunteer opportunities and participation in our workshops, events, and workshops. Contact us to learn more about how you can get involved.
