Under the patronage of the President of Beirut Arab University, Professor Dr. Wael Nabil Abdel Salam, Professor of Surgery and Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Surgery and under the supervision of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Dr. Mahmoud Mahfouz, a workshop on "Minimally Invasive Surgery" was held at Beirut Arab University and Al-Rai Hospital in Saida on Thursday the 22nd and Friday the 23rd of February 2024.
The workshop was attended by residents and fellows of surgery and obstetrics and gynecology, interns, and clerkship students of BAU.

The workshop was attended by residents and fellows of surgery and obstetrics and gynecology, interns, and clerkship students of BAU.
On the first day, Lectures were given by Faculty staff members: Prof. Dr. Sameh Sadek, Prof. Dr. Muhamed Mazloum and Prof. Dr. Hatem Al-Wajeeh. This is in addition to Dr. Nasser Hammoud, Dr. Haitham Al-Fawal, Dr. Mahmoud Basho, Dr. Bassem Skaf and Dr. Ghida Radwan from different hospitals in Lebanon. These lecture were followed by hands on training sessions in the clinical simulation center of BAUFM.
The second day was held at Al Rai Hospital in Saida and it included performing laparoscopic and bariatric surgeries.
Professor Wael Nabil Abdel Salam pointed out the importance of establishing a training program in advanced laparoscopic surgeries and transferring expertise among residents.
He also emphasized that laparoscopic surgery has many advantages for the patient in terms of rapid recovery, pain relief, avoiding the large wounds of traditional operations and shorter hospital stay.
