Description of Subtheme:

The world today, is witnessing the phenomenon of digital transformation as a result of the world entering a new phase of the technology era, which has been reflected in criminal legislation as one of the tools of criminal policy, so that the latter must develop the rules of criminal laws in a way that is commensurate with societies’ use of modern technology.

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OCAG) has defined digital transformation as the result of a transformative process brought about by information and communications technology that has made technologies cheaper, more powerful, and widely standardized, leading to improved business processes and enhanced innovation in all economic, cultural and social sectors.

It must be emphasized that digital transformation has contributed to achieving criminal justice, as features have emerged that keep pace with the digital transformation data.  This is observed through the amendment of criminal case procedures, both previous ones and investigation and trial procedures, as well as the relevant principles related to the implementation of penalties.

The importance of this topic lies in an attempt to amend criminal legislation to keep pace with the current technological development represented by digital transformation, as well as to contribute to the development of the field of criminal justice through:

- Strengthening the role of the judiciary and strengthening fair trial guarantees from a digital justice perspective

 - Modernizing the criminal justice mechanism to keep pace with digital development

- Developing crime prevention methods related to the digital space and mechanisms to combat them.

Digital transformation is a tool for achieving sustainable development. It helps enhance and support the process of change for a better and faster life.

It contributes to improving services in the public and private sectors and reducing the burden on citizens, as well as providing simplified and quick access to services and completing work with high efficiency.

No country today can achieve any sustainable development goal without digital transformation being one of the basic pillars of all development projects, as a result of the information and communications revolution.

The research plan will involve defining digital transformation and criminal policy and analyzing the impact of digital transformation on criminal rules and their enforcement.
